Remember that trade deal with the US that this government has been saying for years is so desperately important and is the big reason why it insists the UK should leave the EU single market and customs union. Well today it published its mandate for trade talks with the US...
and that mandate includes a new forecast that if it gets what it wants from a free trade agreement then there would be an "increase in trade with the US of approximately £15.3bn" after "15 years from the implementation of the agreement". Now I don't want to be a party pooper...
but £15bn in the context of our £2 trillion plus economy is a rounding error, trivial. And Boris Johnson cannot blame the surrender monkeys and defeatists of Theresa May's government for downplaying the possible benefits, because - as he may have noticed - he's in charge

What @CMO_England and @uksciencechief have consistently said is that action to delay the virus would be ramped up as the UK “moves along the curb” to more infections. My report tonight implies we are further along the curve than they thought only a few days ago. Or so...
a minister has confirmed to me tonight. In other words the true rate of #COVIDー19 infection likely to be significantly higher than official figure.

Boris Johnson is right to call his proposal a “broad landing zone in which … a deal can begin to take shape.” As such, it is politically astute. If you accept the premise that the UK is leaving the EU single market and customs union, the proposal is also logical. 1/
He confirms that the Political Declaration must pitch at a mere free trade agreement with minimal regulatory alignment. That is not perfect but can be acceptable to the EU. The big ask is to get the EU to derogate from its normal practices of defending the internal market. 2/
The Commission feels queasy at having to trust the UK authorities to apply EU regulations on trade between Great Britain and Northern Ireland. (It will demand scrutiny.) We are lucky to have @PhilHoganEU as the Commissioner negotiating the future trade deal. 3/

#OpportunityCost is the aggregate net cost of doing something, vis a vis 'not doing it' at all.

The initial project, option & prospect of #Brexit came with huge opportunity costs, which were too easily pre-discounted as #ProjectFear. 1/
The initial #Leave case, dramatised by the #BorisBus, contended that UK could save its £350m pw #EU 'gross membership contribution' and pass that 'saving' straight to the #NHS - as 'additional funding'. 2/
The #Leave case focused on saving UK's #EU gross membership cost in favour of #NHS.

It ignored regular #EU annual contributions back into a multiplicity of UK projects, which would obviously be stopped, if we ceased membership.

UK Democracy feels really great.

about leaving the Single Market. There will be a great deal and in fact
UK wil stay in the Single Market and keep all citizens rights like
EU freedom of movement. No money lost at all.
In fact there will be gains only.
£350m for NHS and many more. It will be very easy. Democracy is great.
