Question: Why is it only antisemites that the media writ large feels the need to coddle and empathize with?

Should the individual profiled in this piece have directed her hatred at another minority, I very much doubt that it would've been similarly explained away
The gist of this piece: 'Oh it's just Bonnie, the friendly neighborhood antisemite. Yeah, she hangs up signs calling to Nuke Israel and protesting circumcision, but she had a horrible family tragedy, so it's understandable.'
Even by the admittedly low standards that I have for @washingtonpost this is remarkably pathetic
The idea here, if implicit, is that antisemitism is more understandable.

Plenty of people have family tragedies. And they don't end up hating Jews. Funny that.
A complete failure as well to focus on how a supposedly innocuous opposition to circumcision can lead to believing that 'Israel should be nuked.'

And no question about how if the tragedy led to Bonnie being antisemitic, her brother also seems to hold similar views.
Wouldn't want to do some actual journalism, now would we?

Can someone plz point me to the @washingtonpost article explaining away the friendly Klan member?
CC @SethAMandel you'll find this article "interesting"
I'm very interested in why @washingtonpost thought running this story, framed in this manner, was a good idea @mnorton I ask as someone who has written about how the media is normalizing antisemitism, appeared in a documentary on the subject, etc
Here are some of the ppl who are supportive of the antisemite that is so delicately treated in this article @mnorton Nice group of new @washingtonpost readers you’ve got here
Here’s another antisemite that’s a fan. This guy is a member of BHI, you know, the group that recently murdered Jews in NY/NJ @mnorton
