1/ Once again, tremendous leadership by Gov. @henrymcmaster w today's latest executive orders & recommendations. Incredibly tough decisions.

We are in a public health crisis.

Today, Gov ordered:

* State agencies to waive any regulation to address coronavirus ...
2/ * Mandatory closure of restaurants' & bars' dine-in service.
* No meeting of more than 50 people.
* State tax deadline extended to June 1.
* The National Guard to develop a plan with hospitals
* DHEC waiver of regulations to allow medical and nursing school students to aid ...
3/ He strongly suggested:

* All elective medical procedures to be stopped to save resources.
* Insurance companies cover all costs of a coronavirus visit.
* Perform as many visits by telehealth.
* All grocery stores to limit purchases on water, paper products, & water ...
4/ * Senior hours for grocery stores.
* Private employers to allow employees work from home.

Today, positive cases increased to 47. We're in day 12 of 1st positive case. It is staying true to the trend of doubling every 3 days ...
5/ SC is tracking like other countries on their 12th day. In Italy, on their 6th day, they had 21 cases. On their 12th, they had 655. On their 19th, they had 2,502 ...
6/ Unfortunately, we need to do more. We need to test more. We need to restrict more. Not for us, but for others. Prepare, don't panic. We will get through this.

1/ South Carolina educational leaders are not being honest with SC parents, teachers, & the public. This results in the continuing failed system for our students.

I’m speechless when the Dept & local school districts intentionally mislead the public, all for the sake of image.
2/ The facts are:

(a) despite a 22% drop in participation on ACT last year, our students were outperformed by 13 of the 15 states with 100% participation. This means 78% of our kids scored worse than 100% of AL, Arkansas, LA, NC, & TN students. This is unacceptable.
3/ Comparing ACT participation & results arguably put our students at 50th in the nation.

Of course, today, the Dept focused on a slight uptick in the state average (with no mention the state is still far below the national average).

Odd & uncomfortable attempt by Matt Schlapp of CPAC to blame me for their coronavirus situation which embarrassed the President, Congressmen, etc.

He claims I am driving a stake through his heart (lol wtf?) by providing attendees with info about the carrier at his conference...
Schlapp asserts I am grinding an axe coz I wasn't on his speaking schedule this year. A really odd thing to claim.

I spoke for CPAC years, and at CPAC Australia. I don't need to speak at CPAC. I was on the Speaker Advisory Board this year for CPAC. I didn't recommend myself.
It is sad that @mschlapp says he "holds me in contempt".

I don't hold him in contempt, and I never name checked him personally until his podcast appearance with the establishment Yahoo! News.

I don't have that kind of MSM sway, so I'll tweet a few more thoughts on the matter.

Today, the nation turned its focus to #coronavirusUSA. Of course, like any national health issue, doctors and nurses are (or will be) asked to step forward and assist in minimizing a potential national and public health disaster, no different than the #opioidcrisis or Influenza.
The @CDCgov @CDCemergency @HHSGov @SecAzar @WhiteHouse @realDonaldTrump reassured the nation – telling everyone that our health infrastructure can handle and absorb such an emergency. "We're on it!"

In the early part of my career as a social activist, fresh out of college, I used to visit young Black men who were incarcerated. Many of them were sentenced under @JoeBiden’s CB.

I worked with a friend, a Jewish lawyer, on a program for them called “The Learning Tree”...

So many times, even when judges wanted to divert young man to our program, mandatory minimums prevented them. First time youthful offenders, sent away for 10 yrs...

I watched families torn apart, marriages dissolved, children become fatherless, and communities ravaged because Biden, and people like him, failed to see the same humanity in young Black men that they saw in young white men who made the same mistakes in life...

This bipartisan deal is not perfect, but it prevents another wasteful and unnecessary government shutdown that hurts our economy and holds the paychecks of hundreds of thousands of government employees and contractors hostage.
Instead of forcing federal workers and their families to once again go without pay, this deal gives them a well-deserved cost-of-living increase.
It increases our investments in infrastructure, public health and environmental safety and it provides local communities with more resources to address the opioid epidemic.

In @HealthyBoston briefing with @wutrain @CampbellforD4 @EdforBoston @LydiaMEdwards where updates are being provided about efforts to improve #trauma response and recovery models by the City working with CBOs, #healthcenters and #hospitals.
In my 8yrs on the Council, I have convened 7 hearings on #trauma, each with a different focus. Although more work remains, I am encouraged to hear that many of the recs offered up by impacted persons & communities at our hrgs & listening sessions were integrated into new system
Data collection of phase 1 implementation indicates that 75% of clients for #trauma response and recovery efforts were #Black #AfricanAmerican #Hispanic #Latino, AND 74% of clients reported chronic exposure to a single (11%) or multiple forms of #violence (63%)
