2/ Without going back to check, I'm pretty sure it was from
these two books that I came to understand that the US was tilting toward our third oligarchy.

We're not there yet, which I why the coming election is crucial.

I think this is pure incompetence.

Fascist leaders are not equipped to deal with a real crisis.
They only now how to deal with a manufactured crises.

In a totalitarian society, the leadership would never be held accountable or blamed . . .

. . . because they would control all information. The people would believe what they were told. In this case, they would believe that the deaths were the result of:

🔹China launching a bioweapon against the US and/or
🔹China lying to make things worse

2/
They'd also believe that the Great Leader Trump was hampered in his efforts to mitigate the problem by domestic enemies (Democrats, liberals, and other critics of Trump.)

There is a two part answer.

(1) Over the past few decades, the GOP morphed from a conservative party into a reactionary party.

(2) Trump created (and fanned the flames) of what political psychologist @JonHaidt and @karen_stenner call an Authoritarian Dynamic.

About a third of the population have what these psychologists call an authoritarian disposition.

Conservatives are averse to change. They prefer stability & status quo.

2/
Those with an authoritarian disposition, on the other hand, are averse to complexity (which includes diversity).

Those with authoritarian dispositions prefer sameness and uniformity and have “cognitive limitations.” They’re “simpleminded avoiders of complexity.”

On December 12, 1944, Regina Jonas is murdered in #Auschwitz. To date, the #world's #first #woman who worked as a #rabbi. Regina Jonas was in her early 40s when she was #murdered in #Auschwitz. She belongs to the "#Masorti" movement,
the traditional but not #orthodox current in #Judaism. She was born in August 1902 as the daughter of an #Orthodox #Jewish peddlers in Berlin's barn district. Jonas is deported to #ghetto #Theresienstadt north of #Prague on November 1942.
During the #Shoah, Jonas in #Theresienstadt encourages her fellow prisoners. On December 12, 1944, she is murdered in the #exterminationcamp #Auschwitz. The knowledge of the fate of Regina Jonas is due to a Protestant theologian, the German Katharina von Kellenbach.

There's been so much hype about #Zanzibar, but at the same time, a few people weren't particularly thrilled. Had to go find out for myself ,so some friends and I planned a trip. What I think? Top rating for beaches, good food, so much to see, history. Read this thread... #Travel
From #DaresSalaam, you have the options of flying or going by ferry to #Zanzibar. On the other hand, you could fly directly there. We spent a few days in Dar, then we went by ferry...it cost $35 per person for economy and $50 per person for VIP. We travelled in the VIP section.
It takes 1hr30mins to get to Zanzibar by ferry. It could take longer when it's turbulent. The hotel we stayed in was an hour away from stone town. We stayed in Nungwi which is North of Zanzibar. #Travel #Africa #Tanzania #holidays

Before I start on the places, the history around all this is fascinating & splits opinion. Is it apt to call the script Tamili/Tamil Brahmi? Did it develop independently in the Tamil country/come with the Jain monks from the north? Were 8,000 Jains actually impaled in Madurai?>
