Chloroquine (CQ) and Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) appears to be able to interfere with the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) ability to bind with Angiotensin Converting Enzyme 2 receptors which is one of the mechanism that SARS-CoV-2 enters host cells. 1/ #COVID19

Second, HCQ also increases the pH of endosomes and lysosomes within host cells and prevents the replication of SARS-CoV-2. Third, HCQ disrupts the interaction of DNA or RNA with TLRs and stop the inflammatory process that can destroy host cells. 2/

HCQ is likely to attenuate the severe progression of COVID-19, inhibiting the cytokine storm by suppressing T cell activation. This reduce the inflammation in the lungs.
