I'm equally fascinated & frustrated by rogue investors in #EnglishFootball

I've read widely and spoken to people with genuine knowledge of the machinations of global finance💸

What puzzles me today is, how/why did #MelMorris get himself in this hole?😏
Here's a man ( #MelMorris ) who was wildly rich!

Had picked his industries, markets, partners well & profited handsomely over the last 30 years+

But then risked a big % of his fortune on (effectively) the huge gamble of reaching the riches of the #Prem

By all accounts, the club loses nearly £1m per week!

There are different models & investors from different cultures ploughing money into English Football today

All with the ultimate goal of reaching the #PremierLeague & the commercial riches that come with that #Soccernomics 💰
But what drives rich men to risk the real fortunes they have created on fantasy football investment?

The world of rich men & high finance is almost indecipherable from the outside

Power, ego, drive, greed, relationships & deceit has led many a rich man to part with his fortune
In #MelMorris case, I did a few basic searches on his business background, partners & successes.

I came across a commercial lineage that I found really interesting - How instructive it is on todays events at #DCFC I don't know BUT fascinating all the same...

MM start in the burgeoning world of tech in the US with #Wang in the early 80's
Around that time they sponsored #RobertMaxwell s #OxfordUnited (Maxwell would go onto buy #DCFC later that decade)! 🤔

⏩ to the profitable relationship with #TobyRowland , son of Maxwell era #Tiny
That #MayfairSet era of #TinyRowland #RobertMaxwell #AlFayed #AdnanKhashoggi etc etc is fascinating!

Their sprawling empires were often fueled by junk bonds, intra company loans, cross shareholdings & outright fraud

However, they were allowed to operate because they were assets
They were internationalists🌐

Much like some of the Asian investors in European football today are tools of the state, The Mayfair set were in part intelligence assets, globetrotting, doing deals behind the iron curtain, in the US, Africa, Middle East

They also liked #Football
#MelMorris and #TobyRowland made a fortune with their business that created the phenomena #candycrush

Ironically, Toby's dad's sparing partner from back in the day #Maxwell had the 80's version #Tetris

(Even with the home town link & chance of glory in the prem - Risk v Reward) 🤷‍♂️

Both began their careers for #Boston based consulting co's
#Boston #USA is part of that #IvyLeague playground 🧐

#MIT & #Harvard are in close proximity - Like #Oxford & #Cambridge in the UK (those prestigious institutions also synonymous with producing spy's & leaders)!

If you look at geo-political history from 1980's - today... These two fella's have really played their part!!

This is the biggest story in World #Sport at the moment

The way the narrative is starting to play out is so reminiscent of the #Trump election - It's a scary template!

If we accept the @panorama programme #boxingandthemob then we have a situation whereby #OrganisedCrime has not only infiltrated BUT is dominating a Global/Professional Sport!
