#AndrewYang and #KrystalBall have long conversation, on #YangSpeaks (now #Forward) about his new party (arguably NOT a party), what it will do, and why.

#YangGang have been waiting for definitive answers. Well, your wait is... not really over😵‍💫
What do I mean by that? Well...

@AndrewYang said he IS starting a new party...
BUT he "answered" the question of whether the Forward party would run candidates by saying it will back #Democrats and #Republicans who align with Forward policy...
open.spotify.com/episode/0XZgPT…
He said he is forming a new party because he doesn't believe changing #election rules in favor of more parties is likely to happen from within the #duopoly...

BUT, they're going to back duopoly candidates, and didn't mention running their own...
So...

Strongly implied Forward #party will not run a presidential #candidate,

softly implied it will not run any candidates.

Not definitive but sounds like NOT a 3rd party, rather an #independent advocacy group that WILL be trying to achieve change from within the duopoly? 🤷‍♂️
In summary, just more corroborating evidence for what I expected:

an #advocacy org for #democracy #reform, focused on #Congressional races.

Would love some hard answers on running candidates from @AndrewYang.

Still, a great conversation on many vital topics.
#Yang also confirmed he is very concerned about #authoritarian #extremism currently taking over one of the parties and that #American democracy is in grave danger at the moment.

Two points he was not vocal about until recently but I'm glad to see him on board for.

On the heels of a terrible quarter, #VW bigwigs finally starting to notice that their house is on fire.

"Future competition with #Tesla's new Gigafactory will be brutal...

A Model 3 is built in 10 hours, more than 3 times as fast as a VW ID3."

#Volkswagon, like all other #legacy #auto companies, have been resting on their laurels and very slow to accept (not counting attempts to sabotage it) the #EV revolution that Tesla has set in motion.

The question for them, and others:
Is it too late to survive? Image

Of 15 #Republican candidates for Secretary of State (the office that oversees #elections), in 5 battleground states,

10 lack confidence in the 2020 results or flat-out claim it stolen.

Only 2 of 9 interviewed acknowledged #Biden as the legitimate winner. reut.rs/3EKY6fd
In 2020, #Trump, and #GOP legislators, not only undermined trust in elections, with false claims repeatedly debunked, they told partisan state legislators to send electors for Trump in states where voters selected Biden; a blatant rejection of #democracy.
It was only laws, and honorable officials holding to those laws, that prevented the #coup from succeeding.

The GOP are not done. Those protections are only going to get weaker with time.

We need to talk about just how corrupt we've allowed #democracy in #America to become, to the point it isn't democracy in many respects. And we need to stop #partisan squabbling and get to fixing it before we end up a one-party state, like #China. Thread👇

In 2019, writing the decision for Common Cause v. Rucho, Chief Justice Roberts closed off the federal courts as an avenue for addressing partisan #gerrymandering, instead telling citizens to propose state constitutional amendments.
In many states, with statehouses #gerrymandered beyond reach of the people, or otherwise beholden to special interests, these citizen-amendments are the only avenue left for addressing #democracy reform and other policy concerns.

Cornell University researchers find #Trump to be the #1 spreader of #coronavirus #misinformation, lending massively to #America's horrific #pandemic performance, compared to other countries, and the 210k+ death count.
nytimes.com/2020/09/30/us/…
Cornell researchers analyzed 38 million English-language articles about the #pandemic to distinguish the largest sources of #misinformation and #conspiracy theories. #Trump was the largest driver, instigating nearly 38 percent of the overall “misinformation conversation.”
Public health experts have long known that clear, concise and accurate information is the foundation of an effective response to an outbreak of infectious disease.

The key takeaway from the #VPDebate2020? Same as for the #PresidentialDebate2020:

#Trump admin refuses to commit to democracy.

First #Trump refused, now #Pence has. OUR PRESIDENT AND VP ARE BOTH REJECTING DEMOCRACY. WAKE UP!!
The correct answer, in #America, #Pence, to "what would you do if your #president attempts a dictatorial coup," is "I would pitch his authoritarian ass out the White House door myself."

Dodging that question is damn near as good as #treason.

"I just want the record to show" #Pence "never answered the question" about how the #Trump admin. would make insurance companies continue to cover people with #PreExistingConditions (because they won't) when Trump overturns the #ACA in court.
That said, #Harris and #Biden should answer. Why does anyone think it would be wrong to increase the court seats when the #GOP leaves it unbalanced 6-3? The courts are supposed to be impartial, not partisan. If #Barrett gets appointed, #Dems absolutely should add until it's even.
And then they should set a system like @AndrewYang proposes, and like #Dems just proposed, to set term limits and cycle judges in a fair manner that will maintain ideological balance. The way it works now is ridiculous. nationalreview.com/news/democrats…
