The tragic and historic floods have created immense challenges for the state and the nation. But they have also created an opportunity for #Pakistan to adjust parts of its foreign policy to focus on prosperity and opportunities for Pakistani citizens. /1

The intl response to the tragic flooding helped #Pakistan re-strengthen ties with key economic+security partners, esp in Mideast+West; states that stepped up again to help in difficulty. Time to expand on this; avoid policy overthink that leads 🇵🇰 to miss opportunities, like.. /2

..post #India's 5 Aug 2019 actions, or the 2020 #AbrahamAccords, or the 2019 huge #Saudi investment opportunity missed by #ImranKhan. Or the multiple opportunities under #Musharraf Admin 17 years ago. These were moments that could have accrued long term benefits for 🇵🇰.../3

..but were missed because of fractured politics, policy overthink, extremism, or all of them combined. For example, #France is exploring the possibly of a conf that could help #Pakistan with grants+possible debt waiver. Hard to believe that just 3 yrs ago there was no French../4

.. Amb in Islamabad for the first time in decades, or that it also coincided with no #US Amb in #Pakistan. #ImranKhan's messed up foreign policy [and the failed internal project of working to build anti-West 'bloc' that so far consisted only of Khan Govt] all helped many... /5

..in #Pakistan understand that we need to abandon the exaggerated emotional and ideological baggage in favor of a focus on prosperity and opportunities for Pakistani citizens in our foreign policy. Now is the time to start working on this, without delay. /6
