With more than 99% of votes counted, this seems to be final result of quite surprising #czechelection -- some reflections #Thread

1. Fragmentation is name of game, even in already fragmented party systems like Czech Republic.

2. From 7 to 9 parties in parliament and only one big party left. Coalitions were already difficult, now even more.

3. There is only one "traditional" party in top-5, conservative ODS, while center-left has been completely destroyed.

4. Two biggest political groups in European Parliament, @EPP and @TheProgressives , are marginal in CZ with KDU-ČSL and ČSSD, respectively.

5. Babis and ANO score slightly lower than expected, particularly in terms of seats, in part consequence of many parties.

6. Populist radical right SPD came 4th, in the end, Still, "only" 1.5 times what Ústvit got in 2013 (+6 seats).

7. Result will not pull Czech Republic much to Orbán or Putin, as Babis will be more a pragmatic Eurosceptic/Machiavellian like Kurz and Rutte.

8. Any reference to #Brexit or #Trump mainly evidences ignorance of author. Babis is fairly ideosyncratic and at least as much Macron as Trump (or Berlusconi).

9. This all notwithstanding, "the rise of populism" is back at the center of the framing of European politics. No matter how different the populisms and reasons for their successes. #TheEnd
