People losing their minds over the president signing the bill fail to see it would have been a wasted veto. It would have gone back to Congress and would have likely been overridden. You want to stop this nonsense? Elect people that don't break down in Congress.
23 Republicans in the US Senate voted against the bill and 39 Democrats supported it. The total vote was 65 votes in favor in the US Senate just shy of enough to override a presidential veto. 90% likely another vote would override a veto with a shutdown between the second vote.
Trump is president, he isn't king or emperor. He can barely get more conservative bills through Congress as it is, particularly in the senate where he has a 1 seat majority which isn't really there because 2 Republicans aren't voting each time.
So, the US Senate is really at 49-49 because of Cocharan and McCain not voting due to health. That leaves room for ONE defection in the senate, only ONE! You want to change that you better get out and vote in November and give the president a House & Senate that make stuff happen
Republicans have the upper hand in midterms for US Senate. Republicans need to field strong candidates that will work to get things done. That will work with the president and also guide the president. Right now the senate Republicans are wafflers because of that thin majority.
Trump lost a minor battle, this bill is only for the current year. If Republicans lose the House or US Senate then there will be far worse bills than this getting pushed upon us. Trump is counting on his base to turn out in the most massive numbers to get a super majority!
Stop the pouting, getting energized, get your family and friends motivated, get to the polls during the primaries to ensure the BEST candidates are fielded for November and then get to the polls and vote those candidates into office.
