Super insightful data from nearly 400 active Kubernetes users on application-level patterns. ~90% of users still use SSH!!! I mean kubectl ... docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d…
Common statement about the core k8s workload controllers (replicasets, deployments, statefulsets, etc): "They just work!"
VERY common feature request with core controllers: K8s-native controller(s?) for blue/green/canary-style complex upgrade/deploy-logic strategies.
Selection of feature requests for core workload controllers. Overkill, IMO, but interesting to see folks asking for core Lambda/function controllers, Singleton pod controllers, etc..we shouldn't add more core controllers, but instead radically simplify writing your own:
Core controller w/ most feature requests: StatefulSets! Unsurprising. Controlling state is hard! The operator/custom controller pattern is better suited, IMO. StatefulSets should address ~80% of needs. For deeper support in your stateful app, write a custom controller + CRDs!
Nice quote: "You are killing it with Kubernetes. Never felt so empowered by a piece of software." 💪🏼
Another very nice quote: "As somebody that has been behind the keyboard for three and a half decade and seen stuff along the way - not that many things can strongly impress me nowadays... Kubernetes? Impressive is colossal understatement!"
