Our survey was designed to be multilingual and multicultural, with professional translators that made sure that questions were well posed in all languages. It is available in English, French, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, and Arabic.

As of last Friday June 8th 2018, our survey has been answered by over 9,000 respondents. We aim at reaching 45,000 scientists worldwide.

We wrap up the session led by Rachel Ivie on the progress of the Global Survey Task with a vibrant and focused discussion on strategies for disseminating the survey to achieve our goal of broad participation across disciplines and countries.

Prof. Merrilyn Goos is now presenting Task 3 of the project: the creation of a database of good practices.

The SAGA Toolkit will be used as conceptual schema for the development of the database of good practices.

Regina Kelly, a Postdoctoral Researcher and Project Officer at EPI*STEM, University of Limerick, will be developing the database of good practices. She's presenting her concept for the project and the steps and milestones to be achieved within the next year.

Policies and intervention programs aimed at increasing participation of girls and young women in science are also an integral part of the database of good practices. Categorization of all different kinds of initiatives is important.

Helena Mihaljevic @h_mihaljevic kicks off the afternoon session of our workshop in Paris summarizing the status and progress of Task 2: Joint data-backed study on publication patterns.

The study of publication patterns will uncover trends in academic publishing in several #STEM fields by looking at data from the @arxiv and @adsabs among others.

We are committed to using and analyzing open data sources in our study. We believe on reproducibility of scientific analyses.

For a reliable estimate of the proportion of women and men in different #STEM disciplines, we have first performed benchmarks of several name-based gender inference services. Our findings will soon appear in @PeerJCompSci.

Algorithmic tasks that will be completed this year:
- name-based gender inference
- author name disambiguation for @arxiv and @adsabs
- extract university, country, and city from affiliations
- enrich data with affiliations

A solid public communication strategy is a must for research projects. Our project's strategy concentrates on a strong web and Twitter presence, complemented by activity on Facebook.

Our project partners close today's session with an update on their activities. They are #IMU, @iupac, @IUPAP_physics, @ICIAMnews, #IUBS, #IUA, @UNESCO, @OwsdSecretariat, @GenderInSITE, @TheOfficialACM.
