1/ Let’s start with article 3 of the Lisbon Treaty
2/ Here is the text
3/ The UK narrowly voted to leave the goals of this project at a time when the EU and Europe were facing and continue to face numerous challenges including geopolitical instability from Russia and Trump
4/ The EU27 have repeatedly said they wish the UK had chosen to stay in the EU and @eucopresident has repeatedly said we can change our mind before 29 March 2019
5/ Even now after two years of UK infighting, no credible plan, being told to go whistle and threats by the UK not to honour past liabilities that remains the case.

Moreover Ireland is showing a willing to extend article 50 to help the UK out
6/ Let’s not forget the UK threatened security in its letter notifying the EU that it was withdrawing under article 50 and has said it will use EU citizens as bargaining chips
7/ But still the EU offers the UK the chance to change its mind
8/ The EU is an international rules based order that works because the laws are applied consistently. The UK was key in establishing the single market and regulatory framework (including enforcement) to make this project a successful reality
9/ When you leave that rules based order you cannot expect it to be changed to accommodate you, whoever you are. That is the whole point
10/ The UK set out its redlines early on - no SM, no CU, no ECJ, no FOM.

That limits the types of deals open to it and the EU has offered terms based on those redlines.

It has also said if the UK changes its redlines, the EU can change what it offers.
11/ Norway is in the EEA but not in a CU. Hannah conveniently mixes up SM and CU for Sun readers which is at best careless.

The Swiss model is basically a messy EEA and the EU does not want to go down that route again which is its choice
12/ On Ireland the problem stems from the UK failing to consider or consult with Ireland as to how leaving the EU would impact the Good Friday Agreement.
13/ Regarding airspace the simple point is we are leaving EASA and if no agreement is in place - flights between the UK and EU stop. It is a consequence of the UK’s decision to leave. It is not an Irish threat
14/ Whereas repeated threats by the UK to walk away with no deal and say no deal are better than a bad deal is a threat to the Good Friday Agreement.

It undermines an international agreement the UK chose to enter into to build peace. That is the Good Friday Agreement
15/ This week @Jeremy_Hunt said a no deal would only help Putin. Yet the UK continues to suggest it is a negotiating option.
16/ A no deal would be an act of hostility to the Good Friday Agreement and peace and solidarity in Europe.
17/ The number priority of the UK should be peace and geopolitical stability in Europe. Without that you cannot build anything lasting
18/ And if you actively work against that priortiy including burning goodwill with your neighbours and allies, you not only don’t help them, you don’t help yourselves
