Thread.

A quick reflection after 2 weeks away from the UK and Twitter whilst I was in Israel.

Whilst the fight to call out the Jew hate on the Left should never stop, in reality I believe we have now lost the “war”. From here on in we can only fight skirmishes for honour.
The genie of Jew hate is well and truly out of the bottle -again.
If history teaches us anything it is that this is the normal state of affairs. One can argue that the decades post-Holocaust were the historical exception. Our mistake was to regard that period as the new norm.
Jew hate has sustained for millennia and will continue to do so.
What we have witnessed is just the latest manifestation, affecting not just the UK Left, but the global Left. It’s been decades in the making and changes in technology around social media have accelerated it.
The virulent hatred of Jews that we see at the heart of the Corbyn Left is not a marginal bolt-on. It is central to the paradigm.
Even if Corbyn is forced out, the work has been done. That Jew hate has been successfully mainstreamed by the rapid acceleration of the last 3 years.
Jews called this out right from the beginning of the Labour leadership campaign in 2015 and were almost entirely ignored and silenced by the mainstream Labour Party: the PLP instead played political dice with the problem of Jew hate.
The list of political dangers that Corbyn represents aside from Jew hate is long and damning. Yet instead of acting to protect democratic politics from dangerous populism, the PLP opted to hedge it’s bets and hoped to ride on the coat tails of a populist wave.
This has meant that for 3 long years, Jews have been left out on point by the Labour Party. Unprotected. Unsupported.
We called out the risks of this consistently. But were largely ignored or silenced.
And so here we are.
The genie is out and it is too late.
Personally, I fear for the future.
Do we continue to fight the skirmishes, hoping for a small victory here and there? Of course. Self respect demands it.
But hope for the future? I no longer have that .
Many Jews will leave the UK. Many will stay.
It’s the way it’s always been.
Personally, if and when Israel becomes a viable option for us in family terms then we may go for good. In the meantime we carry on as generations before us have carried on.
This is nothing new. This is our history prior to Israel.
