A quick reflection after 2 weeks away from the UK and Twitter whilst I was in Israel.
Whilst the fight to call out the Jew hate on the Left should never stop, in reality I believe we have now lost the “war”. From here on in we can only fight skirmishes for honour.
If history teaches us anything it is that this is the normal state of affairs. One can argue that the decades post-Holocaust were the historical exception. Our mistake was to regard that period as the new norm.
What we have witnessed is just the latest manifestation, affecting not just the UK Left, but the global Left. It’s been decades in the making and changes in technology around social media have accelerated it.
Even if Corbyn is forced out, the work has been done. That Jew hate has been successfully mainstreamed by the rapid acceleration of the last 3 years.
We called out the risks of this consistently. But were largely ignored or silenced.
And so here we are.
The genie is out and it is too late.
Do we continue to fight the skirmishes, hoping for a small victory here and there? Of course. Self respect demands it.
But hope for the future? I no longer have that .
Many Jews will leave the UK. Many will stay.
It’s the way it’s always been.
This is nothing new. This is our history prior to Israel.
