@IndiaMeToo @DivyaKandukuri_ I will go on posting the differences in pointers as feel there shouldn't be a need 2 elaborate each.(Most elaboration has been given on Q1 already)
1)The clear and visible difference is #LoSHA made the marginalised women feel secure to name their predators unlike the second wave
@IndiaMeToo @DivyaKandukuri_ 2) Raya’s list was not even recognized as India’s #MeToo moment. It was crushed & derailed by unfair positing of “due process” vs “naming” which was equated to shaming then. But today naming is being applauded according to convinience.
@IndiaMeToo @DivyaKandukuri_ 3) Statements were made by feminists with huge social capital distancing themselves from the list and cautioning against it. How was that not victim blaming? It induced trauma to not just the one who made the list but in all the survivors who named their predators
@IndiaMeToo @DivyaKandukuri_ 4) Instead of dissecting the methodology of how victims name perpetrators we should dissect how survivors/complainants were isolated by the misplaced response.
@IndiaMeToo @DivyaKandukuri_ 5) The call for inclusiveness should have come then. Anyway. Better late than never. But please understand that people went through trauma and can’t suddenly forget and move on.
@IndiaMeToo @DivyaKandukuri_ 6) Today’s victims are not “better” nor are their methods “superior”. Had #LoSHA women been from privileged castes or were mainstream journalists, they’d have been hailed as courageous feminist leaders.
@IndiaMeToo @DivyaKandukuri_ 7) #LoSHA 's major focus was about predators in academia where as today it's been mostly around media (all forms) but that doesn't mean that feminist circles (who are also in academia mostly) will outrage differently for both.
@IndiaMeToo @DivyaKandukuri_ 8)The media coverage:Will media cover a case only whn an uppercaste/priviledged known-face comes out w their story? @thewire_in has even gave space to Partha Chatterjee to justify himself. Will you give same space to a marginalised woman to tell her story? thewire.in/education/part…
@IndiaMeToo @DivyaKandukuri_ @thewire_in 9) It was called as 'Name and Shame Campaign' by these very media institutions who are today calling the current wave of #MeToo as "#MetToo" movement came to Inida? Then what was #LoSHA @thewire_in
@IndiaMeToo @DivyaKandukuri_ @thewire_in 10) And, my answers to Q1 can also be consisdered as differences. Who is leading the movement matters the most in all revolutions.
