If you are an African interested in eCommerce but discouraged by high banking finance charges in selling your goods/services abroad. There are some options in getting round such.
If you use mobile money, check if you can use it to send or receive international payments.

Airtel Money allows you to send money, or receive money from or to other Airtel Money users in African countries.
Your buyer might just be in Rwanda or Congo DR
In Zambia, you can receive funds from around the world into your MTN Money account from WorldRemit.com

You can tell your buyer anywhere in the world to pay you via World Remit.

Ecobank's Rapid Transfer is another way of receiving payments from across Africa.

So you have a number of African payment platforms that you can use to receive payments, that's if you wish to sell your product/service across Africa
If you want to go global , then you'll need to start first with a Payoneer bank account.
Payoneer is an online banking service that allows you to open a USD, GBP, Euro, CAD, AUD, Yen, CNY currency bank accounts online.

You'll need to have a passport or driver's licence to open a Payoneer account.
Payoneer will send you a MasterCard to use at ATMs or swipe in shops. You can also send or receive min $50 maximum $2,000 per transer from other Payoneer users

The real benefit of Payoneer is you can receive payments if you sell on Amazon, Fiverr, Upwork, and also receive transfers from PayPal if it's a US, UK, EU, Canada, Australia PayPal.

If you're selling on eBay, or to US or Canadian clientelle, you'd probably need a PayPal account.
Problem with PayPal is depending on which country you're in, you can not be allowed to use it to receive any payments.
PayPal is only usable in a few African countries to receive payments. Botswana and South Africa are among the very few African countries you can use to receive payments.

Use a VPN and choose a country that works to create your PayPal account, and you'll be able to use it
If you want to sell to people in Europe, Asia, Middle East & North Africa, Africa,then Skrill and/or Neteller are an option.

They are similar to PayPal, but way more easier to use. Especially Skrill
Skrill and Neteller are competing companies owned by the same parent/holding company.
Both extremely easy to open accounts and to send or receive payments worldwide

Skrill has an option for the sender to transfer direct into your bank account. And if you want to receive the payment in forex, then why not use the Payoneer Account to receive in USD, GBP, Euro, AUD, CAD, Yen or CNY

If you want to sell in China, then you'll need an AliPay or WeChat account.
Quite easy to set up online.

And remember any payments you receive, you can withdraw to your CNY account with Payoneer.
If you want to sell in Russia, or the Russian sphere of influence, then you'll need a WebMoney account.
WebMoney is extremely easy to use, just make sure your Google Translate is on cos the website likes to use a lot of Russian

Internet people are very enterprising, so there are sites where you can transfer funds between PayPal, Skrill, Neteller, WebMoney, and a host of other eCurrency sites.

These are called exchanger sites
Remember that whichever platform you wish to use, you will need ID. Either a passport or driver's licence will do.
And there will be some verification process to verify your ID.
