Journalists at the camp haven't tweeted for hours. One journalist in Vancouver tells me they've lost contact with their reporters who were at camp. RCMP have prevented APTN from accessing the site. This situation warrants an explanation from @JustinTrudeau. #cdnpoli #pressfreedom
At his year-end press conference a few weeks ago the Prime Minister said the LNG project the Wet'suwet'en are defending their lands against is a "model" for government and Indigenous people working together in the future.
.@JustinTrudeau also told reporters: "As journalists you’re a big part of what makes Canada Canada, a country that cherishes democracy and will forever defend a free press.” Today the federal police denied journalists the ability to do their job, and Canadians their right to know
So two questions, since my request for comment from you today was deflected to Public Safety, who would not give us access to Ralph Goodale:
1. Do today's events factor into this model you've been praising?
2. When can journalists expect that defence of press freedom?
