The Gulf Cartel has a hold on cities in Texas' tip and coastal bend. McAllen, Brownsville, Corpus Christi, Galveston, Houston and Beaumont are impacted most by the Gulf Cartel which mostly brings marijuana and cocaine into the area.
The Beltran-Leyva Organization is the only cartel listed as having a presence in the Austin area, according to the DEA Report. Beltran-Leyva Organization was created by a trio of brothers who split from the Sinaloa Cartel.
Although the brothers have died, the cartel lives on and is close allies with the Juarez Cartel, Los Zetas and the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion cartel, according to the DEA.
Brownsville, Texas: Members of the Gulf Cartel can be found in this South Texas town, according to the DEA. The Gulf Cartel has been around for multiple decades and smuggles most of its drugs through an area between the Rio Grande Valley and South Padre Island.
San Antonio: Four cartels are present in the Alamo City, according to the DEA. Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion has the largest influence here, followed by Los Zetas, the Sinaloa Cartel and the Beltran-Leyva Organization.
Five cartels can be found in the Laredo-area, according to the DEA. Los Zetas have the most influence over the city, followed by the Sinaloa Cartel, the Gulf Cartel, the Beltran-Leyva Organization and Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion.
Midland, Texas: The Juarez Cartel has the most influence over Midland and mainly brings marijuana and cocaine into the country.
The Sinaloa Cartel, once run by prison escape artist Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, and the Juarez cartel have a 50/50 hold on Lubbock.

In July 2018, ICE in Dallas indicted eight MS-13 gang members for six separate violent attacks between July-September 2017. The victims included five 18th Street Gang members, who were subjected to assaults, attempted murders, robberies, and extortion.
As of January 2018, ICE reported that 64 of the 214 MS-13 suspects arrested as part of Operation Raging Bull had illegally crossed the border as Unaccompanied Alien Children.
January 2018, An MS-13 member residing in northern Virginia gave directions to
members of MS-13 in Houston to shoot rival gang members who allegedly killed an MS-13 member.
As of August 2017, the Houston Police Department extradited a MS-13 gang member from Virginia, according to open source reporting. The gang member faced charges for two capital murders that occurred in Harris and Fort Bend Counties.
