I want to address something in regards to Trump, Russia, and the whole witting vs unwitting thing.

There are those who believe Trump is nothing more than a classic example of a useful idiot. I disagree, but let’s go with that for a second.

Let’s assume Trump by some unforeseen miracle is one of the only people in his entire campaign without extensive ties for Russia. I know, it’s ludicrous, but bear with me.

It. Doesn’t. Matter.

Trump has *repeatedly* lied about or tried to obfuscate his dealings with Russia. We’ve seen the goalposts move so far they might as well be in Moscow by now.

For every lie Trump tells, Putin knows the truth, and that is *precisely* the problem.

I swore to myself I would never use the following phrase, but damnit, times change.

Every lie Trump tells, Putin is able to hold over his head like a sword of Damocles. He is *literally* trained for this.

Is this the reason for the almost-exclusive pro-Russia policy?

This is the EXACT reason Yates rushed to the WH about Flynn. He was a NatSec risk.

I don’t agree Trump is simply a useful idiot. The relationship may have started that way—because Trump is incredibly easy to manipulate—but I believe it evolved to something more sinister.

But again: it doesn’t matter.

Nothing is more dangerous than an idiot who thinks he’s smart, other than perhaps an idiot who thinks he’s smart and also controls the world’s most sophisticated nuclear arsenal. <end>
