This same “first woman ambassador” like all #Saudi women has a male guardian. It could be her father, husband, brother and even son. It’s not about “first.”
This appointment coming on the heels of Rahaf’s escape is clearly meant to signal a false sense of power that only some women from the #Saudi royal family or who are connected to powerful families enjoy.
Rahaf clearly wrong footed & embaraaaed the #Saudi regime & forced onto the global consciousness male guardianship and the gender apartheid that Saudi women are subjected to. So hey presto! First woman ambassador and to DC - Trumplandia! Keep asking why are Saudi women escaping?

Emancipation is not the elevation of one woman by a regime which subjects women to gender apartheid. Emancipation means dismantling the system & institutions that prevent all women from being free: male guardianship and the other crimes of the #Saudi regime.
The same #Saudi regime which just appointed its first woman as ambassador is the one that has imprisoned without charge since May and tortured these women’s rights activists who have long fought to #EndMaleGuardianship
These #Saudi women’s rights activists have long fought to end the male guardianship system. They have been detained since May and tortured at the orders of Crown Prince Mohamed Bin Salman. Remember them. Demand their release.
