So, this shock/surprise over Joe Biden's anti-school integration stance is...interesting in that it is neither shocking nor surprising. However, it does illuminate how successful white Northerners have been in fostering racial amnesia. washingtonpost.com/politics/biden…
Progressive white congressman in the North who supported every piece of civil rights legislation aimed at making the South behaved virulently opposed Northern civil rights efforts -- ie: the Fair Housing Act and school desegregation.
it's often forgotten that while the Civil Rights Act is lauded for making discrimination in public accommodations illegal, white Northern congressman tucked in a provision to bar bussing for school integration in the North unless by court order.
A Michigan congressman tried to get a constitutional amendment (!) passed that would prohibit busing for school integration -- and Michigan went for segregationist presidential candidate George Wallace largely over the issue of school desegregation.
Nixon ran on the Southern Strategy, which brought "ethnic" white Northerners opposed to desegregation into the party along with Southern segregationists. As we know, he won.
The very first school desegregation lawsuit filed in this country was brought by black parents in BOSTON in 1848. Today, the Northeast and Midwest are the most segregated parts of the country for black children.
My life's work at this point has been showing that the racial progressivism of white people stops at the school door.
