Carter NSC staffer, Gary Sick set out to write a dull book about the administration. Then he stumbled on a plot with America's enemy Iran to delay the hostages' release to fix Reagan's victory. Campaign manager, ex Jedburgh and CIA dirty tricks expert William Casey pulled it off.
The plot echoes today's fear that an enemy of America would subvert the U.S. political system. But these plots are generated by Americans using an enemy as a foil to distract from the core criminality. For every accusation of a foreign agent there are American instigators.

Libya has an air force and they are using it. There is also a weird CIA mercenary air force near Misrata manned by Ecuadoran mercenaries who go back to the DynCorp era. There is also a UAE IOMAX and Wing Loong setup run for Haftar by mercs #ThatDesk. libyanexpress.com/libyas-western…
Also some sexy Russian stuff on the ground in Libya. Su-22s and MiG-21 spotted at Tamanhant Air Base near Sabha in West Libya on March 2. Putin is mad at Haftar tho. Saudis and Emiratis went for the prize.
Main aircraft is MiG-23BN (they still use cluster bombs), but Haftar has Hind gunships and Egypt, UAE and the US has been known to sneak into Libya bomb targets. Follow these accounts for solid updates and background:

Nice map-driven source of what is currently happening in #Libya.
Haftar just rolled into Tripoli Airport. Before you get excited, locals use the Mitiga International Airport after TIP was damaged in fighting. We could have a situation where Haftar is trapped inside Tripoli. Russia, the EU, Sirraj and Libya are hammering up dictator plywood.
The latest move by Haftar is directly connected to his visit to Saudi Arabia on March 27. I assume he was given the cash to pay off the other militias that evaporated. thearabweekly.com/saudi-role-exp…

Haftar is making his move on Tripoli using UAE supplied weapons and African mercenaries.
He has support in Garyan about 80 click south of Tripoli but the Misratans are getting gunned up and are already entering Tripoli. Sirraj says he is going to bomb folks.This should get ugly.

Haftar's people are thugs, It is the Misratans the Libyans who tossed Qaddafi and ISIS. Sadly America has no ground game there. When I met with State Dept they were amazed that I traveled anywhere and offered robust ground network. The Euros run the show there, but badly.

 The author, Arron Reza Merat (@a_merat), was a Tehran correspondent for the Economist between 2011 and 2014. He has covered Iran for the Guardian, the Sunday Times and Vice News.

He leaves out the "Reza" part of his name to cover up his Iranian identity.

1. Some discussion that the ICJ's ruling on #Iran case has no real impact for the United States, because humanitarian exemption remained in place after Trump withdrew from the #JCPOA. But I think that misses the root of US shortcomings and the focus of the ruling.
2. @S_R_Anders and @tradelawnews have rightly pointed out that the May 8 and Nov 4 reimposition of sanctions made no legal changes with respect to humanitarian exports. But operational/practical changes introduced by JCPOA withdrawal in May are very clear.
3. #Iran's petition to ICJ took care to explain the importance of financial transactions for trade use of general or specific humanitarian licenses. Iran argued an interruption not merely from returning sanctions, but also from Trump's promise of *further sanctions.*
