In 2014, Information Technology Association of Canada reported that there are over 20,000 ICT orgs in Ontario alone. Over 395K ICT jobs, where 162K of such jobs are occupied by immigrants.

If a techie you find yourself in this environment, here is how to get a piece of the cake.
Oh of course, I can't cover all the tech orgs, but highlighted above are the top ones who usually have openings day in day out.

1. Learn first about the industry you want to get into. When you do this, you’ll understand the roles available and skills that are needed first hand.
2. Find tools online: There are loads of online portals with free resources, advice and tutorials. Such platforms will get you started without any commitments. You’ll be able to learn at your preferred pace, as well as make friends through discussion boards.
When you know the tools a particular organization uses, in your spare time, learn to use such tools and even go beyond. It doesn't hurt.

It only comes back to reward you.
3. Sometimes, chilling in the corners of your room and sending out resumes while waiting for them to come knock on your door might make the process a bit delayed.

There's always a tech meet-up / job fair somewhere in the city. Attend! You are prepping yourself to be in your role
4. Seek out a mentor in that particular tech field:

If I wanted to be a Software Engineer today, I know friends I can reach out to, to be my mentor. There's nothing like, "oh, but I am more experienced in the professional field than they do". They know & have something I want.
Most importantly, a certification can be an icing on the cake that the recruiter won't be able to turn down.

Equip yourself, network, seek, reach out to an organization you like, be confident and be positive. You never know!

All the best!
