I see comments abt. the danger of giving Trump an excuse to declare martial law, and other signs of being overawed by his power. There is no cause for fear or timidity. Apart from the pronounced weakness of Trump's position, consider our strengths:
We are the descendants (literally or morally) of people who secured their independence from the most powerful empire on earth. We are the descendants (literally or morally) of men and women who vanquished an armed rebellion conducted in the name of slavery.
We are the descendants of people who defeated Nazism: some of the victors still walk among us. We have, in recent memory, seen civil disobedience secure Indian independence from Great Britain and the dismantling of South African apartheid.
In our own country, we've seen civil disobedience dismantle an entrenched legal system of racial discrimination, and bring an end to an unjustified war.
Compared to these epic struggles against truly mighty forces and institutions, Trumpism is a trifle, a fragile pretender. We can, and will, defeat it. It may come at some cost, but nothing compared to the cost gladly paid by our forefathers. Be of good heart !
As a post-script, I would add: any talk of 'martial law' is utter nonsense. To do it, Trump would need to have actual troops willing to carry out his orders. There are none such in the armed services of the United States of America. Of that, I am 100% confident.
