It's not uncommon in the startup world for a new idea to be dismissed by know-it-alls simultaneously with growing rapidly among early adopters. I'm not sure why, but these ideas seem to do even better than the ones that aren't dismissed by know-it-alls.
Perhaps the reason is that these ideas seem to the know-it-alls not merely unpromising but also presumptuous, and since risk is proportionate to reward, a presumptuous idea that actually works is likely to pay off big.
I realize "know-it-alls" is a goofily retro term, but it's apt here, because you'd need to be God to dismiss startup ideas confidently. It's not because I'm extra polite that you don't hear me doing it. It's because I have enough experience to know how dangerous it is.
