Trump takes a shot at Pelosi's intelligence, saying of his new NAFTA, "I don't think Nancy Pelosi understands the deal. It's too complicated. But it's not a complicated deal."
This is how Trump is describing his deal to lift his steel and aluminum tariffs in exchange for Canada and Mexico lifting the tariffs they imposed solely in response to those tariffs: "We reached an agreement with Canada and Mexico to lift major tariffs on American agriculture."
Trump is continuing his serial dishonesty about tariffs, saying his $16 billion aid to farmers "all comes from China," then that the tariffs are paid "largely by China." They're paid directly by American importers, who often pass on the cost to their customers.
Trump, taking questions, continues about Pelosi, with no apparent basis: "She's a mess. Look, let's face it. She doesn't understand it. They sort of feel, she's disintegrating before their eyes. She does not understand it."
Trump then falsely claims Pelosi is holding up the new NAFTA even though "unions are in favour of it." He adds, "She's got to get up to snuff, learn the bill." Several big unions, and the AFL-CIO broadly, have been skeptical at best.
Trump keeps insulting Pelosi's mind, calling her "Crazy Nancy" and saying, "I'll tell you what, I've been watching her, and I have been watching her for a long period of time, she's not the same person. She's lost it."
Trump then says he doesn't think Pelosi even has the ability to understand the USMCA: "I don't think she's capable right now of understanding it. I think she's got a lot of problems."
Trump turns to Kellyanne Conway and then Mercedes Schlapp and then Larry Kudlow to attest to how calm and polite and not-mad he was to Pelosi yesterday.
You can't really fact-check this stuff, but there's really no indication that Nancy Pelosi has lost her mind.
Trump, minutes into a wild (though soft-voiced) rant, says of his behaviour yesterday: "I was extremely calm. Very much like I am right now."
Trump: "A lot of people say Deep State. I don't say Deep State."
Trump is asked why American *importers'* money should go to farmers. He doesn't seem to understand that the reporter is rejecting his premise that this is China's money; he simply talks about how China is mistreating the farmers.
Asked about sending troops to the Mideast to counter Iran, Trump says, "I would if we need them. I don't think we're going to need them. I really don't. But I have a meeting on it in about an hour. I would certainly send troops if we need them."
Trump criticizes the Iraq invasion, saying it was a country that killed terrorists and did not knock down the World Trade Center, and boasts of defeating the ISIS caliphate, though he reiterates that they are "crazy" and still might "blow up a store."
Trump boasts of his Japan trip: "I am the guest. Meaning the United States is the guest. But Prime Minister Abe said to me very specifically: you are the guest of honour. There is only one guest of honour. You are the guest of honour."
Trump: "I'm an extremely stable genius."
Asked who specifically he is accusing of treason, Trump names Comey, McCabe, Strzok and Page, none of whom committed treason.
Trump's repeat suggestion that the USMCA's new rules mean "nobody" will manufacture cars in Mexico for the U.S. market is extremely dubious.
Trump finishes by repeating his false claim that GM has sold its Lordstown plant as he demanded. No sale has been completed. "GM is in discussions to sell the Lordstown complex to Workhorse. The deal is not done," the company told me four hours ago.
