This won't be heard, but there are 2 big reasons why today's result cannot be seen as a proxy for a second referendum (the vote shares for leave and remain parties are dominating the coverage...). THREAD 1/
First, we don't know, and are a long way from knowing, what Brexit might be on the table. Will it be 'no deal'? What does 'no deal' mean? Do we want, and can we get, an FTA with the EU? How will the Irish border be dealt with? 2/
As Brexit crystallizes, I think it is inevitable that it will lose some support. It is difficult to imagine that things will be handled well in the next months... 3/
And second, remain parties are not united in having a 'path to remain'. What is the plan? If a PV, what will the question be, and how will it pass through Parliament? 4/
Again, as the position crystallizes, it is likely to lose support. 5/
It is not good, but eminently predictable, that even an EP election campaign has shone so little light. The Tory leadership campaign won't help. It does though give remain MPs time to devise a plan, which they cannot waste. 6/6
