Justin Amash's town hall is verrrry interesting wlns.com/breaking-news
Says he thinks he can challenge Trump and still win in his district "but in any case, you should always do what's right."
wooooo this MAGA lady is nuts, but also a taste of what people have been lead to believe by Fox et al.
Now he's giving it to Nunes re FISA reform. "They don't want to protect your rights. They want to protect the president!"
Now a Dem opponent of Amash's is asking about protecting healthcare...
Amash wants to deal with preeixsting conditions by extending Medicaid?
Amash being asked about Climate Change by member of @sunrisemvmt...

"the Green New Deal, which I haven't read, is a bunch of resolutions"...

he wants to get with young conservatives to propose free market solutions...which he believes will unlock technology to fix it
@sunrisemvmt ends up saying he'll look at both free market and regulatory solutions.

which, sad to say, is a more robust position than a lot of the national GOP.
@sunrisemvmt it shouldn't seem exceptional that GOP members of Congress face their constituents on a wide range of tough questions, but it is. So kudos to Amash for doing it.
@sunrisemvmt Also, worth noting that by calmly taking questions from both right and left, he has managed to keep this pretty civil, if spirited!
@sunrisemvmt black guy asks Amash why he's "demonizing" Trump when he's done such a great job, "especially for minority people"

Amash: I suspect a lot of people would disagree with you on that. 🙀
@sunrisemvmt Amash asks "why are people so angry with each other when the economy is doing so well. Ask yourself that. And the answer is the tone set at the top" says we have to start respecting each other again.
@sunrisemvmt "we have to have virtue and we have to have love"
@sunrisemvmt says having a system of limited government (which is his position) can only exist in an atmosphere of love and respect.
@sunrisemvmt My hot take: he's kinda coming off as the Right's Mayor Pete.
@sunrisemvmt Says a lot of the procedural votes in Congress is just to make constituents believe that MoC are working for them or even just working. 👀
@sunrisemvmt Says that's why he's speaking out. Because he doesn't have that much power in Congress. And "this is more important."
@sunrisemvmt To a Trump supporter Amash says "I represent the entire district," not just those who voted or gave to him.

"This is what it means to be a bigger person. I don't care if they voted for me or if they're [Dems] being hypocritical. I don't care."
@sunrisemvmt Says that if all people care about is beating the other side that's the quickest way to make our society "a dead letter."
@sunrisemvmt Amash is one of the most interesting members of Congress. To my mind he's good at diagnosing the problems but whiffs on a lot of the solutions. But at least he stands by his principles.
@sunrisemvmt Interesting also that he seemed to be willing to consider regulations on climate, when he's an anti-regulatory/government libertarian about most other things (except abortion). Could mean nothing, or that even GOP MoCs who are young are very worried.
