1) Realization: Our long-standing problems with corruption in political bureaucracy gave birth to many awful times, events, & leaders, but they do not equal that awfulness, nor is it a necessary consequence. Evil, not conditions where it can flourish, is to blame for itself.
2) Show me a system that cannot be gamed by the shrewd and powerful, and I will ask you to pull the other one, 'cause it's got bells on. Whatever our politics, the way things tend to work out here, just a few end up on top. Not all are evil, or nearly equally so.
3) "The duopoly" & "the political establishment" show the harm that can come from complacency, but not even every sycophant can be demonized when we all gotta eat, fear want, and when right-minded people still might make career choices that leave them comfortable, not challenged.
4) Any pool can become germ-filled and toxic when left to grow stagnant. Sure, you can move to another, fresher pool, but it might be smaller and farther away. It takes longer, with more frustrations, to flush out the rancid pool with clean input. It may be worth it.
5) Example: However awful an environment the popular music industry has become to true individualists and innovators, we have still heard, loved, and benefited from SCORES of truly brilliant - and admittedly truly struggling - musicians and groups. THE SYSTEM LET US HEAR THEM.
6) Enough information has filtered through for us not only to know of a world other than the flashy corporate ads & demos represent to us, but also to give us access to tools, & even means to escape if it becomes intolerable. The Evil in the System Is Not Identical to the System.
7) So choosing to build a new consensus, with the time and effort that might take, or using the structures of power to beat the evil ones at their own game - Both of these have demonstrable merit. Use the one that turns you on, without fighting to turn other good guys' means off.
8) Might all these words be better summarized by the teaching, "Love your enemies"? Those of you who are binge-watching or re-reading "Good Omens," fear not, I'll spoil nothing, but I will say this: Keep a particular eye on which characters bring about resolution in the story.
