there are 100 history books to be written on this deep truth, at least 50 already have been. for host of reasons southerners were able to beat back Reconstruction &as importantly inculcate, educate generations with myth that secession was a righteous cause.
2/ complicated story, but "de-nazification" was a huge part of the early occupation of Germany. Obviously incomplete on various fronts. But a process that went pretty deep nonetheless.
3/ Again, v complicated history. But Austria has had more of a problem in this regard because they presented themselves (and allies to significant extent accepted) that they were victims of Nazi aggression rather than its perpetrators. Had major impact on this front.
