I am not sure DOJ misled. At least one DOJ lawyer at yesterday’s hearing sounded shocked the President had demanded rethinking census question in a tweet. But NOW DOJ credibility will be on the line, and I have no faith in AG Barr to do the right thing.
The entire Trump issuing executive order to put citizenship question on census (per @axios) is bizarre. #SCOTUS did not question executive branch power to do this. But it has to give a nonpretextual reason complying with administrative law. That should come from Wilbur Ross.
That said, I wrote @Slate on day of #SCOTUS decision that I thought CJ Roberts left the door open for census question do-over and the issue could be back before Court in summer. slate.com/news-and-polit…

My bottom line is that—executive order or not—if Trump tries again with citizenship question on census, Chief Justice Roberts is the only one that matters and he will be put off by this amateur hour.

Leonard Leo has managed to create a veneer of legal neutrality with the Federalist Society, but behind the scenes (and with lots of undisclosed money), he's a Republican political operative. See this extensive @washingtonpost investigation: washingtonpost.com/graphics/2019/…
And remember it was Leo ally Ed Whelan that pushed the other attacker Zillowgate nonsense about Kavanaugh and Dr. Ford, and though Whelan apologized, this was the Republican party line for how they could believe Dr. Ford was "mistaken" and vote for Kavanaugh.
And the WaPo report shows that Leo is behind the fundraising the for Judicial Crisis Network, which brings huge, undisclosed money to support Republican Supreme Court and appeals Justices and attacks Democrats. It's partisanship pure and simple.

From this @Arianedevogue @cnn report, it sounds like DOJ will tell Judge Hazel that they are still thinking of what reason they might have for including the citizenship question on the census, but not say what that reason IS. /1
If DOJ responds this way in census case, it will trigger an evidentiary hearing in Maryland on whether Administration acted (and continues to act) with racially discriminatory intent in seeking to add citizenship question. /2

Going through the suspected bomber's apparent Twitter account, there are just hundreds of explicit, direct threats directed at politicians and journalists. The world be very different if Twitter and the government took these types of threats at all seriously.
Much of the account's content, like posting the same image attacking Parkland survivor David Hogg hundreds of times, can't help but raise questions about mental illness and the role social media played in exacerbating it.
It's far from definitive, but there is some research on this. The name, "Twitter Psychosis" is less than ideal, but the thesis here is worth considering. washingtonpost.com/news/the-inter…
