I can't help but wonder from which of his administration's many negotiating triumphs President Trump draws inspiration when he smears PM May and her team as incompetent.

Was it getting his farmers locked out of China and outflanked in Japan?

Restarting Iran's nuclear program?
Maybe it's Jared's 'solving' Israel-Palestine by holding a weird Davos-style event where he blamed the PLA for everything?

Is it North Korea, where he legitimized a monster in exchange for restarting talks?

Perhaps it's the USMCA side-grade, currently stuck in Congress?
Is it his trade-war with the EU, where after waves of tariffs and counter-tariffs everyone has arrived back at the exact same intractable differences they had at the beginning?

Help me out here fam, the deals have been so artful I don't know where to start.

There's something reeking of privilege in the posh Brexiteer refrain, "Surely like-minded people on both sides of the channel can just work it out?"

It is the baffled cry of those whose problems have heretofore always dissipated following a quiet chat between the "right people."
It is the mildly affronted confusion of those who never had to sweat the details, follow the rules or put in the work.

Those who could call daddy's old friends in senior management and have the uppity clerk put in her place for trying to enforce the no-smoking policy.
It is the morning after Bullingdon Club hotel room vandalism, when the scions of the well-to-do saunter off for a Bloody Mary at the Yacht Club, safe in the knowledge that someone else will clean up last night's chaos.

Someone paid to fix the aftermath of 'boys being boys.'

1/ I know you all expect me to dunk on him I'm honestly just saddened for what shysters have done to the UK's discourse with this Art XXIV smokescreen.

There's no sane universe in which a Prime Ministerial candidate should grilled on sub-paragraphs of the GATT by @afneil. None.
2/ The GATT 24 issue isn't actually that complicated.

Question: "Is there a WTO legal way the UK and EU could mutually agree not to charge tariffs on one another's products?"

Answer: "Yes there is and it's called a Free Trade Agreement."

That's it. No paragraphs. No legalese.
3/ The obvious follow up isn't that complicated either.

Question: "Is the EU going to agree to something like that?"

Answer: "They'd have extended existing arrangements under the WA and negotiated towards something like this, but have said they won't do so on Day 1 of No-Deal."

I see several media people stating it probably has to do with Iran, which could very well be....

In the statement, though, it says they will discuss "matters such as Switzerland's role in facilitating diplomatic relationships AND OTHER INTERNATIONAL ISSUES."

I wonder if anything will come up about the Swiss banks and related investigations that have been going on. 🤔
