Kudos to the co-editors of Israel Studies 👏👏 for defending the #academicfreedom of its contributors & refusing to suppress critiques of anti-#Zionist discourse & “scholarship”, re: the manipulation of language by virulently anti-#Israel academics.
#academicintegrity #academia
It’s the height of #hypocrisy that critics of #WordCrimes who tried so hard to get this special issue retracted & relied on false accusations, smears of the editors & authors to do so, are now whining that the volume threats THEIR academic freedom to “engage in debate” 🤣🤣🤣 1/
In fact, as anyone who read the special issue knows, the contributors critiqued the prevailing terms & concepts used/misused today in many academic disciplines—which actually is hindering free and intellectually-rigorous debate on #Israel 🇮🇱. 2/
Critics unfairly maligned the editors & contributors as “right-wing hacks” and mouthpieces for Israel’s government. We all critique #Israeli policy, including in media coverage (ie, proposed code of ethics for 🇮🇱 faculty), but they were (& are still!) too lazy to look us up 😩 3/
It’s worth noting (as Cary Nelson does) that there is an effort by anti-Zionist faculty to invent & fabricate patterns in which they see their speech as suppressed. It’s a “deplorable trend” that is really aimed at discrediting any criticism of anti-Israel scholarship. 😡 4/
In the end, as Troen remarks, #WordCrimes sold beyond our wildest dreams & is being read far more than had the academic thugs left us alone. So many rallied in our support! Looks like the field of Israel Studies has a fighting chance 👏
TY @fathomjournal for the coverage!
