Mark Esper, 55, served for a decade on active duty & in the 101st Airborne Division during the 1991 Persian Gulf War before joining Army Reserve.He also was as a national security aide to then-senator & future Defense Sec Chuck Hagel & served in Pentagon under Pres George W.Bush.
Mark Esper comes to the job with key supporters [Lindsey Graham] to the president, deeper ties to the military and bipartsian support on Capitol Hill. He does not see a problem with transgender troops.
