Just got a breaking news text from #PlannedParenthood that Dr. #LeanaWen is out and #AlexisMcGill is in and I think this is the strangest story ever in a day chock full of really strange news.
Not my beat, but I sure do want to know what the actual story is.
The "secret meeting" part is concerning. Why did the meeting have to be secret and why wasn't #LeanaWen just told outright, "Listen, you just aren't fighting back hard enough when abortion rights are being trampled across the country." How hard would that have been?
Dealing with conflict this way--when so much time went into finding Wen to replace #CecileRichards after a decade--just looks like there was something else going on. This lack of transparency is an unforced error on #PlannedParenthood's part when PP can least afford that.

Some tidbits: more NYers donated to @PeteButtigieg than all donors to @BilldeBlasio (deBlasio still has the worst unfavorables of all 25 candidates) . And @shondarhimes donated to @ewarren.
Where does @TomSteyer fit into this picture? Is he going to pay for his own debate and televise it himself?
@TomSteyer I had honestly hoped for fewer candidates on the debate stage, much as I really like some of these folks, like #Gillibrand and #Castro, who have some key progressive policy that no one else has.

So The Wife and I rode out the huge storm tonight on the moon, courtesy of @PBS. Our trip culminated in the extraordinary short film #Earthrise by @evaughnlee on #POVshorts. It's the story of astronauts Bill Anders, Frank Norman & Jim Lovell & the 1st photos of Earth from space.
Anders, Norman and Lovell speak so philosophically and emotionally about their hope for a unification of the planet and a retreat from nationalism (their exact words) when people see how we are all one on the same beautiful Earth. 🌍🌒💫🚀
It was a provocative and deeply moving film. Just a half hour, but such a powerful series of images and thoughts from these men who were the first to see the Earth from space. Would that their words had resonated for everyone. But watch it if you can via your local @PBS station.

When I covered the #SCOTUS for three years, #JohnPaulStevens was one of the great stalwart justices. He was an extraordinary jurist and I feel grateful to have witnessed him on the bench. He penned so many great rulings and dissents.
In 2000, it was Stevens who spoke out against the SCOTUS end run against the election. It was a fundamentally important dissent that was sadly prescient.
Stevens was 99 & died as the result of a stroke he suffered yesterday. His was a life well lived in service to this country,
My thoughts are with #JohnPaulStevens' family and others who loved him. His decency was equal to his intellect. There are few enough about whom that can be said.
