Very interesting thread, and of course absolutely right that Johnson wants power above all. But if he stands on that damn-EU-and-Remain-MPs no-deal platform, what then? It still ends in disaster for him.
Best case scenario, Remainers recognise unique national emergency, hold noses and vote Labour. It’s in fact the surest way for Labour to win power, as opposing no-deal has been Labour’s one absolutely consistent Brexit policy all along.
Imagine the hell of that campaign. The Tories will be inviting us to jump off a cliff and pretending there’s a golden mattress at the bottom of it. A huge tactical voting campaign will begin to ensure that people support whoever is best placed to stop the Tories.
Good news for the Tories is that the Brexit Party is all but wiped out - though they may scrape just enough votes to stop Tories in certain close seats.
But the worst-case scenario is that Tories actually convince voters to endorse their own economic ruin. Johnson will then have to see through his bluff and deliver no-deal after all. What kind of premiership will that turn out to be for him? This country is fucking insane.
