Republicans: Spread racist talking points in order to create fear and anger that will galvanize their base.

Mass Shooter: Cites same talking points as logic for his crimes.

Republicans: But we're not with him.

Mass Shooter: But I'm not with them.

Oh... well, that's fine then.
I have no doubt these shooters who take such pains to say that Republican politicians are part of the problem genuinely think of the mainstream GOP as ineffectual centrists beholden to lobbyists. They want people who will fight the war with them.

But the disavowal is strategic.
They can say "I felt this way before Trump." I've seen a lot of racists at varying levels of violence say that.

I'm sure they were racist, angry, and scared before Trump.

But they're acting now, with an openness they didn't before.

A handheld bluetooth keyboard/trackpad combo is easier to hold up than a phone, and if you can touch-type, you can also just get a full-sized keyboard and just like put it on your stomach, wherever is most ergonomically convenient.

That's what I'm doing now.
I like my laptop, too, but I'm not going to try mounting it above my head in my bed.

I'm also not on my phone right now, but my pocket PC. I'm just describing how to get a similar experience with a phone you might already have and a <$20 phone stand instead of having to buy a pocket PC and a wearable heads-up display.

I've spent a lot of time getting my bed set up for being able to read and write in it since I got unsick, because while I was sick I didn't have the energy or presence of mind to do it. Next time I'll have an easier time of it.
I got myself onto my wearable computing kick as a frequent traveler but it turns out to make great assistive devices.

I am fully laying down as I type this.
If you can't afford a wearable screen, here's a cheaper set-up for typing in bed: get a flexible gooseneck phone stand and clip it onto your headboard or bed frame. Get a wireless keyboard and trackpad, or a USB adapter for your phone for a wired one.

I understand the practical arguments against kicking a site like 8chan off of Cloudflare: they'll just go to other protection services and if that fails they'll move to a whole new site. Sure. I'll buy that.

Doesn't mean it's pointless. That wastes their time, dilutes their pull
Time they spend fighting to keep their server up is time they're wasting. Server downtime is time when their users, particularly the more casual ones who aren't yet radicalized and fully dependent on the site for validation, might drift away to other parts of the web.
As long as the site exists as a stable platform with a known address, it'll get a steady flow of new blood from people who want to see what all the fuss is about. It's as easy as typing in a URL.

If you dig through #StephenPaddock's background, you are 100% likely to find instances of domestic abuse committed by him.
There is a reason mass shootings are exclusively committed by men. This is almost entirely about power and control. About asserting toxic masculinity over those around you. And it almost always starts not with the shooting or attempts at shootings, but against a domestic partner.
And if it's not domestic abuse, it's a propensity towards it. It's anger and hatred towards women. The mass shooter has either been controlling towards women and dehumanized them OR the mass shooter is frustrated at lack of control over women and WANTS to dehumanize them.
