Every once in awhile it's a good idea to sit back and ponder the "standard beauty" differential between male and female "analysts" and "contributors" on cable TV news. All networks are equally culpable. It's just that Fox adheres to the blonde MILF model more.
This is why I rant about the new fake eyelashes norm. Yeah, male guests wear makeup now. But they're not being remade and cast to nearly the extent that women are.
And yes, there are some gorgeous "standard beauty" women who are also great subject matter experts or just super smart period. But same is true of women who look different.
Why do most women on TV wear sleeveless dresses with an at least moderate V-line plunge? Who does that exclude?
Why do most TV anchors and female cable news frequent guests have the same hairdo? (Just past shoulder loose curl with highlights).

Exhilarating that black women on national news have begun to be freed from this. But for the rest of us...overwhelming majority.
There are some men who are neither (imo) that good nor standard beauty good looking who are nonetheless anchors! Major correspondents! This has never happened for a woman.

And the flip side is some standard female beauties who are great journos are discounted. No women win.
Just went over to CNN's talent page and...almost every woman has basically the same haircut (excepting GOAT @camanpour) and had a spit take as to how old Cuomo's headshot is cnn.com/specials/tv/an…
@camanpour CNN has no prime time anchors. MSNBC has only @Maddow.
@camanpour @maddow Fox started the trend of having transparent anchor desks or weird stools so as to oggle women's legs. But @AC360 (among a lot of other shows) has one now! Why.
@camanpour @maddow @AC360 If we can't pressure the networks to do a better job at female and other representation, well, it goes hand in hand of a Congress full of old white men.
@camanpour @maddow @AC360 Similarly, if you're putting on a public panel, esp with an elevated stage, please be aware that women of different heights and preferences for skirts (or no) should not have to wonder if your chairs or tables leave them vulnerable to upskirting. That's your problem to solve.
@camanpour @maddow @AC360 At the VERY least, it should be pro forma to alert women to things like "this stage is elevated by six feet and the chairs are somewhat deep, in case you want to plan accordingly"
