Here's where Jeremy Corbyn will be this weekend. Can you guess what the politics is?
The focus is Mexico + women. But there's space for not one but two lectures by Dr Francisco Dominguez, the Marxist Madurista usually featured at Cuba/Vzla Solidarity events. One is the sole Venezuela content. And a film presentation by Pablo Navarette, TeleSUR's UK correspondent.
I see this is being referred to as a 'personal jolly'. Oh it's a bit more than that, journos.
@Sara_Rose_G The last big LatAm 'jolly' was in December. Corbyn gave a video message that was mainly about extolling Evo Morales. A group of lefties tried to raise a banner about Nicaragua. They got thrown out. (Pics @xilo_clarke)
@Sara_Rose_G @xilo_clarke These circles that Corbyn moves in bear little relationship to the actual Latin American community in the UK. +Much of what he's used to is organised by the Embassies. And as I've written he'd nowadays be outside his safe space with many LatAm lefties.

@Sara_Rose_G @xilo_clarke Counted wrong. There's actually 3, not 2, lectures at the Fest by this 👇 guy
@Sara_Rose_G @xilo_clarke Not one, not two but three chances to hear this bloke joke about famine in Venezuela at Corbs weekend 'jolly'.
@Sara_Rose_G @xilo_clarke Corbyn went to AMLO's inauguration and is a fan of women of Latin America. So a perfect w/e for him.

This 'dream' festival in idyllic Wales is happening during the largest refugee crisis ever in Latin America. A crisis these folks pretend isn't happening lest it spoil their fun.
@Sara_Rose_G @xilo_clarke Yep. Definitely a time for the UK's chavistas to 'h̶u̶d̶d̶l̶e̶ celebrate together'. This is like Disneyland for Corbs! I am particularly struck by the reminder to listen to Chileans, given that Michele Bachelet is one.
@Sara_Rose_G @xilo_clarke Alongside the debates about Mexico, womens issues and Dominquez' routine there's also this.
@Sara_Rose_G @xilo_clarke Francisco peddling his wares on Fake News Central.
@Sara_Rose_G @xilo_clarke Jeremy and Francisco have met before btw.
@Sara_Rose_G @xilo_clarke Hanging out with a bunch of people either living in the past or focused hard on the latest left saviour whilst desperately avoiding looking at the disaster in front of their eyes has got to be some sort of metaphor for Corbyn right now, sketch writers.
@Sara_Rose_G @xilo_clarke Just seen Corbyn's visit to this Madurista* event described by a Corbynista as "celebrating diversity." It's kinda the exact opposite.

*Madurista = the faction of chavismo that continues to support Maduro.
@Sara_Rose_G @xilo_clarke Corbyn spoke at the 'El Sueño Existe: Victor Jara Wales Festival' last night. He started off talking at length in Spanish, which itself drew a cheer from a thrilled with the presence of the "future Prime Minister" audience.

He described this particular coming together of music, politics & poetry as a "human vision of the kind of life, society and world we'd like to live in." Gets v emotional talking about Victor Jara and his own Chilean trip as a lad.
Corbyn gets a cheer for nodding to the event's Women of Latin America theme.
Mexican President AMLO, whose inauguration Jez and Seumas attended, then gets some adulation. The issue with migrants is talked about but not what AMLO is actually doing on the Southern Border.
There is a mention of the "humanitarian disaster on America's doorstep." and "but for fortunes in life any of us could be refugees." He's talking about Central America, and only about Central America. The crowd applauds. I feel ill.
He then goes onto the ecology and those rainforests. Throughout all this my inner s̶c̶r̶e̶a̶m̶ monologue was 'what sort of a person who is THIS interested in Latin America can just block Venezuela out?'
ME at fifteen minutes in as he's rambling on about human rights and then how wonderful children are and how when he's PM they'll all be playing musical instruments. That got a cheer.
It's not just the gobsmacking avoidance here of Venezuela, he spoke in Parliament about Nicaragua *210 times.*
To my followers living these dual nightmares, you might want to take a swig of strong liquor before watching this.
"that spirit, of another world that is absolutely possible"
It really is utterly remarkable that in this setting he can preach this line given what actual LatAm progressives & lefties in actual LatAm talk about. Stunning.
"In the memory of Allende lets put out a message of peace, of justice, of solidarity, of environmental justice."

Can't hear you Jez over the noise of Allende torture survivor Michele Bachelet's UN report.
"The dream but above all the hope exists!"

It's hard for me to think of a directly comparable scenario because Venezuela is a pretty unique, man made, catastrophe. He has history though with the way Stop The War just shut out, blanked, any inconvenient Syrians. + there's this 👇
