confirms @ianmulheirn’s analysis that high house prices are in fact the result of low interest rates - not insufficient house building. Housing scarcity's role in raising prices has been ‘negligible’.

The paper we published last month recommends that, to raise home ownership, the govt must either:

🏠 Subsidise first time buyers;
🏠 Direct more lending their way;
🏠 Or, reduce financial incentives for landlords bit.ly/2Z9oy12
And to tackle unaffordability of private rented housing, the Govt needs to:

✅ Reverse cuts to housing benefit;
✅ Build more social housing;
✅ And, get wages growing again.
