Thread: #Kamala's historic campaign as only the 3rd Black woman to seek a major party nom (1st as top tier) isn't being met with the professionalism/culturally competent coverage it deserves. #RepresentationMatters so let these Black women reflect HOW it's done right. #Kamala2020
The media is often more interested in the horsesrace vs educating the public on a candidate. The GOLD STANDARD on researching/original substantive reporting is set by @juliacraven with a deep dive into #Kamala's Black maternal health work.

We know that horsesrace coverage comes with the territory, however @emarvelous showed how to balance discussing the state of the race with providing space for rebuttal from #Kamala/supporters & providing perspective (i.e. acknowledging smear campaigns).

#KamalaHarris has been the subject of smear after smear, even from the Democratic debate stage. While the media calvary comes to Joe's rescue whenever he is "attacked". Corrections of smears against #Kamala are confined to fact check sites & ppl like me.
The media frequently quotes Sanders supporter Lara Bazelon trashing #Kamala. Interestingly LB was a NON-FACTOR in any contemporaneous reporting I've seen from 04-19. Yet nuance about Kamala's tenure, like this article by@ResLegalDiva, is rarely provided

It is worth noting that some of the most competent coverage of #Kamala has come from @Essence. Check out this article by @YeshaCallahan that I can attest to accurately covered Kamala's Essence appearance. Contrast w/most articles emphasis on detractors.

Now let's talk cultural competency in coverage. While I often detect a distrust, hostility, and passive aggressiveness from those interviewing #Kamala...interviews by Black women in particular stand in stark contrast. Example 1- #AngelaRye's podcast

I want to also shout out Black women pundits like @ZerlinaMaxwell @TiffanyDCross @K_JeanPierre @SistahScholar @mayawiley @MoniquePressley just to name a few who consistently provide thoughtful #Kamala (& more) commentary. #ListenToBlackWomen
I have a request for the #KHive/#UnitedForKamala. Please help me crowdsource suggestions for excellent Black women journalists/pundits that would be a good match for a potential profile/interview with #Kamala. Hint: If she supports someone else she isn't a good match. Comment ⬇️
