Millions are facing genocide in Northern Syria due to Trump’s collaboration with Turkey’s Erdoğan.

The U.S. Left has not only facilitated this mess out of ethnocentric ignorance and campist politics...

Many failed in educating on the importance of Left projects in this region.
As internationalists, we’ve stood for years with comrades building in these regions being impacted now.

We, along with our partners Cooperation Jackson, have taken great inspiration from efforts in Northeastern Syria in particular (aka SANES, or Rojava).

In addition to building off of principles of democracy, cooperation, autonomy, and more, the Kurdish population and others in this region have sacrificed many lives in the fight against ISIS, which existed in the form that it did largely due to U.S. foreign policy following 2003.
Now the U.S. has given Turkey permission to launch an ethnic cleansing campaign against them.

This is something we’ve warned the global Left about for a while now (along with many others).
This isn’t a coincidence either, by the way.

This is from just last month.

Now we need to see who on the Left is willing to take a stand against Turkish imperialism...

One of the most alarming things about this situation is that Turkey has supported ISIS in Syria and enabled atrocities we couldn’t even type out for you here.

Now the U.S. has given them permission to take ISIS prisoners, whilst simultaneously launching an imperialist operation.
FYI:

Ethnic and religious minorities in Turkey like Kurds, Armenians, Assyrians, and Alevis are systemically oppressed and subjected to police brutality, similar to what we experience as Black folks in the U.S.

Turkey even banned the Kurdish language...

As anticapitalist, diasporic, poor and working-class African peoples who have lived under settler-colonialist U.S. empire for hundreds of years and whose ancestors were enslaved here, we know all too well about genocide and colonization.

We say “no more.”

Here or anywhere else.
If you are a comrade in the United States, we expect you to AT LEAST call your Senators, House Representatives, and the White House IMMEDIATELY (and EVERY DAY) until this is reversed.

If you don’t know your district representatives' info, please go here:

When you call, say your name and congressional district, and make these points:

1) I am calling to oppose Trump's support of Erdoğan.

2) The Trump administration is aiding genocide. Turkey is going to drive people out of their homes and subject them to the rule of jihadis.
3) Handing over control of ISIS prisoners to Turkey is a mistake. Turkey aided ISIS and will treat them as allies.

4) The U.S. must commit to enforcing a no-fly zone to prevent Turkey from bombing the region and causing mass casualties.

Trump's announcement, for those not yet in the loop:

And @AOC, best believe we expect you to say something.

We don’t bother with Left politicians much, but you’ve shown you want to step up to the plate in more than a few different ways.

This one is a gimme. Even @SenSanders and @IlhanMN have already spoken up. Now it’s your turn.
Also, @serjtankian, you have committed your life to speaking out against genocide.

We know the relationship between Kurds and Armenians is complicated, but we’re positive you’d agree that solidarity is needed here.

Armenians have been (and will continue to be) impacted by this.
S.ktir git faşist, @RTErdogan.

Fuck you, @realDonaldTrump.
Re: “no-fly zone” (to clarify):

The global Left and anti-war movement are much too weak.

We, as Leftists, should never be in a position where we’re making appeals to (or relying on) any imperialist powers as a means to avert any type of crisis (even genocide).

That’s an issue.
We must also begin to focus more attention on building a serious anti-war movement so that we don’t have to find ourselves in these kinds of predicaments in the future; there is a much deeper conversation the Left must now have about the nuances of what it means to be “anti-war.”
We hope that our organization (as well as many other Left organizations) can soon begin to open up much more serious forums on anti-imperialism, internationalism, and not letting pragmatics consume Left principles during crises in the 21st century.

This is needed in these times.
Finally, let’s make this very clear:

Neoliberal and Conservative forces want more involvement in this region of Syria, but this has absolutely nothing to do with “protecting” Kurds (or anyone else) to them, and this is something everyone should already be aware of at this point.
To Neoliberals and Conservatives, staying in Syria is about the U.S. remaining the world police whilst simultaneously maintaining hegemony and points of imperialist extraction within the Middle East.

Period.

Be mindful of people calling themselves “Leftists” who disregard this.

Update:

The @PYD_Rojava’s Salih Muslim has stated that Russia (along with the Syrian government) has promised a no-fly zone in Northern Syria to put an end to Turkish air strikes and provide some sort of relief after days of carnage. Still early, though. Deals not yet finalized.
