I did a tour in Kirkuk, Iraq. I worked side-by-side with our infantry units. We conducted cordon and searches, raids, dismounted patrols. We worked long, hard hours in the blistering heat in full gear. And not all of us came home.
We turned over our base in Kirkuk to the Iraqis in 2011. And with the first threat of ISIS in 2014, the Iraqis abandoned the base. But first, they looted it. They took everything they could. They used shot guns to blow open safes. They ripped out all the electronics.
They destroyed the base. All of our equipment. And it devastated me. What was the point? Why were American lives lost if the Iraqis were going to turn tail at the very first hint of conflict? Was it all for nothing?
But then something happened. The Kurds showed up. They claimed the base. They started cleaning everything up. And the Kurds stood up against ISIS. The Kurds stood tall when the Iraqis abandoned the US.
For any of you that have missed the news, tRUmp just gave Turkey carte blanche to attack the Kurds in Syria. The Kurds are ALLIES of the United States. tRUmp has hung them out to dry.
tRUmp disgusts me. He is not a leader. He is short-sighted, self-centered, and lacking the intelligence to understand how his actions affect others both immediately and in the long term. He needs to go!
