Reminder to @MetPoliceEvents - independent legal observers are present at #ExtinctionRebellion to monitor police conduct and arrests: they are not participants in the protests.
Report from one legal observer: "as I followed the arrestee into a holding area near the Mall surrounded by a six foot metal fence the arrestee signalled he wished me to follow him in. As I stepped into the area (the officer) slammed a 6 foot metal gate into me".
A complaint is coming but assaulting legal observers will, in due course, prove expensive when you have to settle civil claims out of court
We have been asked why the police would allow an independent legal observer to enter a holding area. Immediately after this incident, another arrestee was brought to the gate and this time another legal observer was allowed to enter.

Don't make excuses for assault.

The @Policy_Exchange report on @ExtinctionR calls for expanding surveillance: "the Commission for Countering Extremism should ensure that far left, anarchist and environmentalist extremism are sufficiently recognised and challenged within a wider national strategy on extremism".
The report's ideological position on what supposedly constitutes "extremism" is clearly stated: "more also needs to be done to counter the extreme message of Extinction Rebellion who argue that catastrophe can only be averted if the free market and economic growth are abandoned"

JACK’S STORY: today we want to tell you all how a 14-year-old Derbyshire boy was labelled a #DomesticExtremist because he said in class – in a lesson on the US civil rights movement – that he is an anti-fascist and how his family was then hounded by counter-terrorism police
The evening after the class, the school told Jack’s parents it had decided to refer him to #Prevent because of the risk of “radicalisation towards terrorism”. It refused to say any more, or provide any documents for “safeguarding reasons”.
Fortunately, the case was quickly closed: there never was any risk. Common sense seemed to have prevailed. But then the parents discovered the school had falsely claimed Jack and his father had knowledge of anti-fascist “terrorist training camps and/or meetings”. Yes, really

 Many news sites refer to Badwan as either a protestor or a demonstrator who was shot and killed by the #IDF. The photo on the left, from the DailyMail, states Badwan is a protestor. The photo on the right from CGTN states Badwan is a protestor as well.

 The problem is Badwan wasn’t there to protest in the way most people think. This video was taken Friday afternoon at the Karni crossing where Palestinians were clashing w/ #IDF soldiers. At the end, you can see Badwan being evacuated after getting shot by the #IDF.
