Priority when we regain American control is to give the force of criminal law to guidelines, practices and norms that formerly protected us from having a compromised political party put a criminal into office.
Nothing in our modern system anticipated an entire political party becoming owned by an enemy nation.
After WWII, Americans developed hubris over whether we could be corrupted by fascism. We kind of strutted around thinking we were immune to it.
Meanwhile, fascism was driven out of Europe, and deposited its larvae in the GOP.
Some of our highest jurists failed to recognize the menace.
And slowly, slowly, the balance became tilted against self-rule in a constitutional democratic republic, and back toward the autocracy from which it emerged.
We have come within a hair’s breadth of throwing it all away.
We did that.
If anyone doubted until now that Putin is calling every single shot in the Trump WH, the past week ought to put that to rest.
And who am I talking to, here?
MEDIA.
@nytimes in particular.
You own this.
Let’s face the truth. If it were not for that one single story, Clinton and not Trump would have won.
We would still have had hundreds of Russia-turned operatives within that GOP.
But we would not have had a WH controlled by Russia, absent that one story.
