When you elect a mob criminal, that’s what happens.

Priority when we regain American control is to give the force of criminal law to guidelines, practices and norms that formerly protected us from having a compromised political party put a criminal into office.
Prior to Trump, it was believed the parties would self-filter their own candidates for criminal behavior and tendencies, as well as for conflicting loyalty to America’s enemies.

Nothing in our modern system anticipated an entire political party becoming owned by an enemy nation.
But it was the founders’ greatest fear.

After WWII, Americans developed hubris over whether we could be corrupted by fascism. We kind of strutted around thinking we were immune to it.

Meanwhile, fascism was driven out of Europe, and deposited its larvae in the GOP.
It took that predator several decades to mature, fertilized and fed by white supremacy wrapped in religious garb. The founders separated church and state because they knew how the golden fist of the church had maintained monarchy and suppressed democratic self-rule for centuries.
We forgot. We let it creep in.

Some of our highest jurists failed to recognize the menace.

And slowly, slowly, the balance became tilted against self-rule in a constitutional democratic republic, and back toward the autocracy from which it emerged.
“Unitary executive.” Don’t make me vomit. A fig leaf for monarchy, dictatorship, totalitarianism. The antithesis of everything our constitution stands for.

We have come within a hair’s breadth of throwing it all away.
We gave our nation to the Russian mob, folks.

We did that.

If anyone doubted until now that Putin is calling every single shot in the Trump WH, the past week ought to put that to rest.

And who am I talking to, here?

MEDIA.

@nytimes in particular.

You own this.
The New York Times headlined a front page story, in October 2016 when Hillary Clinton was on track to take the WH, making the known false claim: “Trump has no ties to Russia.”

Let’s face the truth. If it were not for that one single story, Clinton and not Trump would have won.
You own this. The whole thing. The New York Times made itself a tool of the Russian mob and put an enemy into our WH. And it has taken not one single ounce of responsibility to correct the problem since then.
I really don’t care whether the NYT got played, or whether it joined the GOP in playing us. When you claim to be our nation’s “paper of record,” you have a duty not to get played like a bunch of grade school idiots.
We would still have had a mob-corrupted @GOP.

We would still have had hundreds of Russia-turned operatives within that GOP.

But we would not have had a WH controlled by Russia, absent that one story.
“US joins Russia.” Against the rest of the democratic world. I’ll just leave this here.
