Interesting take on Turkey’s invasion in a week where Erdoğan has used chemical weapons in NE Syria, bombed the only hospital in Serekaniye multiple times, promised to “crush heads” of Kurds, all during a supposed “ceasefire” and receiving worldwide condemnation incl @amnesty
Describing dissent as “vanishingly rare” with no attempt to give context: Erdoğan imprisoning all critical journalists, tens of 1000s of HDP activists, anti-war academics & medics, closing down critical publishing houses, the “world’s biggest prison for journalists” @RSF_inter
Here is an HDP (@UKLabour’s sister party) office in Diyarbakir before an anti-war rally. Would you describe dissent in Turkey as “vanishingly rare” or rather: beaten down by police batons, silenced by sycophantic media (including @guardian) and imprisoned?
Astonishing that this article dwells on a Turkish claim that an “SDF counter-attack” shelling killed a baby in Akçakale over 10 days ago, but makes absolutely no mention of Turkey’s use of chemical weapons or its bombing of Serekaniye’s hospital - both war crimes. Why? @mck_beth
@mck_beth you could even speak to a British volunteer currently in Rojava who has been part of two civilian convoys to Serekaniye to rescue their wounded and bring aid and supplies. Turkey is creating a humanitarian crisis
She is a first-hand witness to the Turkish war crimes you are failing to mention in your articles
Unlike this alleged shelling by SDF, there is actual indisputable evidence that Turkish-backed forces are committing war crimes. Maybe deserves a mention in one of your articles @mck_beth? Or are you worried you’d be banned from Turkey like @SweeneySteve
Social media censorship - video of HDP office being stormed by Turkish police (further up this thread) appears “unavailable” for many Twitter accounts. If journalists focused on censorship & the role of social media orgs they would better understand the dynamics of Erdoğan’s rule
