There are so many powerful ways to answer this question, and he didn't come close to any of them.

I'm trying to be open-minded, but this is one of those questions that is practically softball for any elected official who has been paying attention since Ferguson--and many long before that. One of the most discussed political topics of the decade. How do you not get this one?
And I gotta be honest: if a politician is struggling to answer a basic question on police brutality and systemic racism, which has been widely discussed and debated, it honestly worries me what they know about trans issues, which are not as commonly understood.
