Amazing admission.

Media companies have non-aggression pacts with each other.

“We are following the same policy that we have applied to Bloomberg LP and our direct rivals in the financial markets and media: we report on but do not investigate Reuters and CNBC.”
You’d have to guess this is reciprocated, that CNBC & Reuters will also not investigate Bloomberg.

There is an understanding, written or not, between these ostensible “rivals” that there are lines they won’t cross.

Feels collusive. But notice that tech companies are fair game!
When tech companies even had a hint of this five years ago, they had to pay a $400M+ settlement.

And that was just about raiding each other’s employees, much lower stakes than admitted collusion by media companies to suppress information from the public.
