English water ways are an international disgrace. So-called plans for improvement are announced by Tory governments, but they tend to remain plans, not actions. The pollution continues unabated.
Then at the next election, after yet another failure, the Tories promise to do better. And the whole disgraceful, #PostTruthSociety vicious circle of #PublicRelations , half truths & lies is repeated again, while the #Finacialization of the water industry goes on, unabated.
There’s money to be made by the water companies pouring their sewage into our rivers and onto our beaches. So, being greedy, they do it to add to their Directors’s bonuses & shareholders’ dividends.

two best-selling books, both decades old, warned us what #marketing would do to #politics. (I'm sure that many others books did the same—maybe better—but these are the two we know.)

the first was Vance Packard's "The Hidden Persuaders" from 1957.…

Packard's text is a popular treatise on "psychological advertising"—inducing people to buy products for *irrational* reasons, by appealing to their buried fears and traumas.

Packard writes about many aspects of this new #marketing method of exploiting human weaknesses.

the insidious thing about the "psychological" method of #marketing is that the advertising method, i.e. manipulation of human fears, is completely dissociated from the product itself. one may use fears and traumas to sell *literally anything*, even @bariweiss or @elonmusk.

A Financial Times update on 'employee advocacy', from yesterday.

I have conducted quite a few corporate workshops on employee advocacy and my approach has always been about a simple starting point: if a corporate wants its employees (at any level) to be its advocates, 1/5
2/5 formally or informally, those employees need to have a distinct and interesting enough online voice!

The other point to understand, for corporates, is that if they do find an employee with a fairly significant online voice, chances are that it is not because they speak
3/5 about the company often (there are exceptions). To add company-talk in an employee's pre-existing online reach is force-fitting the corporate brand and diluting why the employee gained her/his online reach in the first place.

The Natural Capital Coalition is made up of approx. 300 orgs/corps while working w/ thousands. Partners include #CocaCola, #Shell, #Walmart.

Those with money will own #nature.
Those w/ $ will own #nature.

The very corporations that have brought us to the precipice of #ecological #collapse - will now be appointed as the new stewards of nature. This has been dubbed (#XR Business - Elkington/Volans) as the new biosphere economy.

Let's take a look at how #Covid19 has been successfully leveraged (both fear & distraction) in order to aid the largest transformation of the global economic system in modern history. Assigning monetary value to nature ("natural capital") will replace #GDP.

The thing about hasty speech, or in this case press releases, is that even when you delete it, people already have receipts.

So, you'll now have to deal with 2 crises: the actual thing that caused the crisis, and the subsequent ill-thought response to it.

So, here are 5 things I think @NativeMag could have done better:

1. Be sensitive and emphatic

@NativeMag should not have started this write up by posing as the good guys. I mean, we have receipts that whatever home work you did was really not thorough.

With the supposed world class team they had discussing with the @NativeMag team, it was obvious that proper forecasting was not done.

Otherwise, the first thing that world class team should have envisaged is that the location was obviously not ideal for the expected crowd.

First, a definition of brand. Brand is about values. It's a promise made by organizations to live up to a core set of values. The #brand of an organization is determined by how well it lives up to these stated values - in both actions and words.
