With just over a month left in 2020, let’s talk about the #designtrends we expect to see in 2020. I’ve noticed, and this is usually the case, a larger focus on animation this last year. Flat, #material animation especially 2D characters. Also there has been an increased
Social media focus on “lesson” #Instagram style posts with multiple screens. Hell I tried it myself to see how I would go about doing it. The good thing about these types of posts is that they actually do contain some good info, but I think the trend has hit its peak now.
Next year, I suspect the design world will get more into simple #motiongraphics, perhaps even the multi-screen style static pages we have seen but shorter, more focused animated style typography based animations as the tech becomes more widely available through phones and tablets
I think this will also flow into #logodesign and #brand animations. With more focus on better brand animations, rather than the simple light point flowing along logo or the flipping, twisting, turning animation that is popular right now.
Basically I think as the tools for simple animation and #motiongraphics become more accessible, we will see an increase in this type of design. Every year #typography appears as a trend in the 2020 trends lists. I think this is a bit of a cop out since typography is the backbone
Of #graphicdesign so of course it will be a trend, or at least it will seem to be trending when really it is a long term thing. I think type will become bolder, heavier weights used across #advertising and as I mentioned, animated with #motiongraphics far more.
I’ve seen talk about simplified #landing pages being more prominent in 2020 and I can see an argument for that. KISS is far easier to design to with tools like #squarespace and #wix meaning more small businesses are creating websites from template builders. This gives the
Impression that design had decided to simplify, but really it is due to the expansion of simplified design tools allowing non-designers and non #webdevs to create sites. So I’m a way, this trend will continue.

I am already seeing #gradients and muted monochrome visuals
Across a wide spectrum of #graphicdesign, from #logo presentation to #advertising. And certainly a push to make this more popular. I do think it will have a half life though, since it popped up in 2019, I expect the popularity will wane in the second half of 2020.
Depending on how long #janda continues to trend on Instagram, like Chris Do before him, we will see his current brand of affable design education, and #personalbranding proliferate. He is quite popular on #instagram right now and I don’t see that slowing down in #designstagram
With his #teamyellow and recent push for #teampurple avi changes on the platform for Alzheimer’s awareness, he is already using his platform for good, even if most people will forget about it a short while later, such is the mindshare of social media. I do think #design
Will continue it’s #Philanthropic and #charity based work, which will become more popular throughout 2020. I think more designers will think about their works impact on the environment, with more focus on #sustainability and lowering our physical and digital #carbonfootprint
In fact, #infographics with research and content around #climatechange will become more popular as the the public talk about it more. This is definitely an area of growth for #graphicdesign and may be where newer designers should focus their work to be noticed.
Okay, I thinks that’s enough #2020designtrends for now. Let me know what you think of the points above. Am I wrong in any predictions? I admit I’m in a bit of a #graphicdesign bubble so I could be off by a lot.
